As my old high school chum along with our charter captain made our way under the Dauphin Island causeway to the bottom of Cedar Island, the adrenaline starting peaking as it was time. I’d notice at the docks we were leaving that the cove looked like the one from Jaws Chief Brody, Captain Quint and Matt Hooper left from. Ironically, it was three of us as well. I verbalized the observation and stated: ‘only two came back alive.’ We made it back after an hour and a half had accumulated two miles for me, half a mile out of the shipping channel before legal issues or worse commenced.
By the Ft. Morgan’s ferries generosity, I was able to start on the portion of the bay, I am tackling in October. Knowing I’d be starting early morning when the tide is setting Gulf ward I sensed it best to start the east bay swim (blue lines displaying route) in the afternoon to avoid swimming against ‘the suck’ one fall morning come late October.
