Joining ‘The Vibrio Club’ (Final Leg of The Mobile Bay Swim)
When I set out to officially train to swim across Mobile Bay I only considered the ‘usual suspects’ of danger. Such as sun burn, sharks, currents and boats. The bacteria, Vibrio, has been a bigger problem in recent years due to global warming and the Gulf staying warmer even longer into the fall. I never considered bacterial levels along with more traditional potential catastrophes. Thus my name for this final write up on my adventure. By God’s grace all of us who have swum this dangerous stretch of water, we’re kept from harm. A friendly family of porpoises came alongside to give me that momentum I needed. A stiff wind and chop taught me the art of perseverance. Cooler waters buffeted me from dehydration. All in all, it was an accomplishment of a lifetime. Initially starting at Cedar Island, Dauphin Island and ending in Gasque.
